Independent Parking LotsAs is the case in most port cities, there are independent lots near the cruise port. While these lots aren’t as convenient as parking right at the ship, they have the advantage of being cheaper. Plus, the lots will have shuttles to take you right to the ship. So if you don’t need to park right at the ship and don’t mind an extra 10 minutes to get to the ship, you can save significantly.
Water Taxi – The system of waterways provide a unique way of getting around and seeing the sights. You can hop on and off boats all day to visit 12 points of interest in Fort Lauderdale and three more in Hollywood. The tickets are a bit pricey but you may see some savings with their “Cruise & Save” discounts at various restaurants, museums, and shops along their route. The area next to the cruise terminal is for loading and unloading only so you should be prepared to unload/load quickly to allow others to do the same. There is porter service available to help you with your bags to private cars, taxis, or to baggage trucks that take bags directly to the airport.
This 2.5-mile promenade (101 S. Broadwalk) along the Atlantic Ocean is a wonderful place to stroll. The boardwalk connects three parks, 50 restaurants and dozens of shops. You can walk the boardwalk or rent a bike, and there are benches and public restrooms along the way. Located in the former 1905-era New River Inn is the History Museum with exhibits covering prehistoric times through the modern era. The 1907-era Pioneer House Museum is set up with period furnishings, antique dolls and toys, much as it was back in the day, while the 1899 Schoolhouse Museum has period wooden desks and textbooks.
